Retaining Relative Height Information: An Enhanced Technique for Depression Treatment in Digital Elevation Models

چکیده

This study presents an enhanced variant of the priority-flood based algorithm proposed by Wang and Liu for treating depressions in digital elevation models (DEMs). The redefines spill elevation, key concept original algorithm, as lowest that a pixel needs to have ensure non-ascending path toward border DEM, plus larger small number (~0.001) difference between unaltered values focal its immediate downhill neighbor. redefinition is adopted obtain intermediate surface direct flow ultimately carve DEM. Each carving starts from depression bottom propagates downstream until cell guaranteed Tests these algorithms on complex terrain 260,000 km2 Sichuan structural basin China shows maximally preserves directions extracts realistic drainage networks. Retaining relative heights, therefore directions, cells within allows new offer depressionless DEM with modification origin further hydrologic applications. treatment provided freely available tool BNUSinkRemv.

Priority-flood: An optimal depression-filling and watershed-labeling algorithm for digital elevation models

10 Depressions (or pits) are low areas within a digital elevation model that are surrounded by higher terrain, with no outlet to lower areas. Filling them so they are level, as fluid would fill them if the terrain were impermeable, is often necessary in preprocessing DEMs. The depression-filling algorithm presented here— called Priority-Flood—unifies and improves on the work of a number of prev...

Shaded-reliefs Matching as an Efficient Technique for 3d Geo- Referencing of Historical Digital Elevation Models

Traditional methods using aerial photographs for shoreline measurement often involved non-stereo photography with no vertical information. However, digital elevation models (coastal elevation models or CEMs in our case) are widely used in GIS to predict the impact of coastal flooding and Sea Level Rise. Hence, we propose the CEM methodology to cope with computing shoreline position as the inter...

An Interactive Visualization Method for Integrating Digital Elevation Models and Geographic Information Systems Vector Layers

Currently there are software packages that allow a user to analyze GIS data. The problem is that the software is limited in the interaction provided. This paper presents a method for merging digital elevation models (DEM) and GIS vector layers, and also provided is an interactive visualization tool for analyzing the output.

Optimization of Digital Elevation Models for Routing

Routing is a common task when using digital maps, but most engines offer only travel routes for automobiles. However, a more interesting aspect in this topic arises when being a cyclist. For this target audience especially elevation information is relevant. Such data is available from different sources, but is not perfectly usable for cycling routing. Those digital elevation models may include ...

Quality assessment digital elevation models

A number of published stereo matching algorithms have been implemented and tested on SPOT images of areas for which we have gridded digital elevation models (DEMs) available with spacings of 80m or less as well as ground control checkpoints. Results will be presented for a comparison of stereo matched output with the DEMs and an analysis of the errors arising and their causes. Results will be d...
